Dana Giovinetti-Devine by her own admission is a late bloomer. The oldest of her parents three children, she was always acting “in charge” of her siblings, her friends and any occasion she encountered. She blames it on being born under the sign of Leo. Did she really have a choice?
Her late mother, Diane was an Executive Assistant for bank vice presidents and her late father, Jack a police lieutenant for the Philadelphia Police Department. Yes, Jack and Diane were her parents, but John Mellencamp never met them.
Dana and her two younger brothers grew up in South Philadelphia where she can still tell you where to get the best pizza and fresh baked rolls. Still friends with her grade school classmates from St. Monica’s and most of her Class of 1984 from St. Maria Goretti High School. There truly is no better place to grow up in her mind, the people, the food, and the lifelong friendships. Not to mention the incredible sports teams.
She starred in plays at then St. John Neuman High School during her time at Goretti and graduated delivering the Salutatorian address.
Writing was always her mothers talent. Dana continually admired her mother’s gift and though she aspired to be a forensic pathologist growing up, nursing school and the hospitality business were the vortex she was swept into for her career.
Spending thirty years as a corporate meeting and event planner, she turned to writing when she tragically lost her husband after ten years, seven months and twelve days of being married.
Crushed and broken she remembered her mothers words, “its easy to write, sit down at a blank page and open a vein”
Grief brought her finally to the place she felt most at home, in front of a keyboard with a place to dump the pain and anguish. She moved to the Jersey shore with her beloved dogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Dash and Chima. So she opened a blank page and hasn’t stopped typing since.
She hopes you enjoy “Against the Ruin” and that you look forward to the next two books in the Trident Team Trilogy.
